This grant is a further step toward the transition to clean energy at the Port of Seattle. The REACH Center serves Pierce County youth ages 12-24, through resource navigation related to employment, education, housing, advocacy, and counseling. Life in the United States is challenging for people who do not speak English.

Tacoma Community House offers a range of language and literacy programs from adult basic education classes to GED preparation to English Language Acquisition. We have staff that speak Spanish, Thai, Khmer, Laotian, German, Ukrainian, Russian, Vietnamese, Japanese. We can provide services to any clients that speak any language through our translation service partnerships. Our Staff

By 1913, two Methodist deaconesses — Miss Chayer and Miss Branning — worked full-time to offer songs, stories, crafts, and other activities for the neighborhood’s girls. When they outgrew the space and rented a larger house next door (1320 South M Street), they expanded their programming to include activities, clubs, and interest groups for girls and boys. Find helpful resources to help you get back on your feet and on the path to a sustained success.

Questions about utilizing our space for events or meetings

TCH provides English and citizenship classes, employment and legal services, and GED preparation. If you are experiencing housing instability or homelessness, The ACT Program is here to support you. We serve youth ages 12 to 24 in Pierce County with individualized case management support to achieve housing stability. At The REACH Center, our mission is to equip and embolden young people to achieve success in education and employment through a strong network of dedicated partners. The REACH Center promotes effective use of resources, and enhances collaboration with youth and community partners, and offers a unified voice in advocating for systemic change in how young adults participate in their economic future.

Our Immigration Specialists speak Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, and Japanese, but we serve individuals who come from different backgrounds and speak many languages. The local economy is robust, driven by technology, aerospace (thanks to Boeing), healthcare, and retail. This mixture of industries creates a dynamic job market but also contributes to a high cost of living, particularly regarding housing prices.

Though the name suggests a very local ministry, their approach is to assist a wide variety of people and needs. About 70% of those participating in the language and citizenship classes are Ukrainian! They can also receive pro bono and low bono legal assistance when navigating the legal hurdles to citizenship. You could meet with a small group for about 10 minutes and engage in conversation with them. You would get a list of vocabulary words they are studying and talk to them about their culture, their struggles, how they are adapting to their new situation, and so on. What a personal way to experience the life of one of our newest residents!

For homeless youth, TCH partners with other providers like the Beacon Young Adult Shelter in Tacoma and also integrated the REACH Center into TCH after being one of the founding partners. REACH Center programs include education, employment, housing, counseling and advocacy for youth years of age to help them achieve success and reach their life goals. REACH’s 10 peer outreach specialists, all with lived experience, meet one-on-one with homeless youth (many BIPOC and LGBTQ2+) at encampments, shelters, and vehicles.

In 1923, the agency began offering English classes to newly-arrived Filipino immigrants and workshops for immigrants who needed to get their citizenship papers. TCH achieved many “firsts” during this prosperous time — from organizing Tacoma’s first baby clinic and kindergarten class, to hiring the city’s first African American teacher. Built as a Settlement House to serve Tacoma’s Italian and Scandinavian communities, it evolved with the neighborhood’s changing needs and became a prominent center for immigrants of all backgrounds.

"All of our departments are growing. Our education programs couldn’t be more full – English, adult basic education, GED programs, citizenship classes… Those are ongoing and continue to grow,” Khuu said. Today, TCH provides an array of equity-advancing programming focused on family reunification, economic stability, citizenship, education, safety, opportunity, and quality of life. Talk Time is a unique opportunity for adults in Tacoma Community House’s English Language Acquisition (ELA) Program to practice conversational English with volunteers in our community. Students are able to put their English skills into practice, while both conversation partners have the opportunity to ask questions and share experiences. Talk Time is often the only place where our students can engage in spontaneous conversations, which are important in building their language confidence and fluency.

If you are experiencing homelessness, The REACH Center is here to support you in finding a home and employment that will allow you to be self-sufficient. Through our ACT Program we provide individualized case management support for youth ages who are dealing with homelessness. What an exciting time to get involved in the ministries and mission of Tacoma Community House! I had the privilege of meeting with the new Executive Director, Aimee Khuu, recently. She comes to the organization with a wealth of administrative and organizational skills from the Providence Hospital system. Her father was an immigrant from Vietnam and she has lived int that country as an ESL teacher and volunteer.

The police chief stressed that the events are an isolated incident and said there is no ongoing threat to the community. Penn noted that officials are aware of "concerning" social media posts allegedly made by Yoo, adding that they will be reviewed as part of the investigation. Penn said Yoo did not have any previous interactions with officers at the address of the now-obliterated home. The only documented incidents between Yoo and law enforcement, he said, are two calls for service for loud noise over the past couple of years. The exact circumstances of the explosion are still under investigation.

"It's just tragic, I mean, it looks like a war zone — it looks like a bomb hit our neighborhood and it's just unfortunate," Mr Kolankowski was quoted as saying. "ID is expected to take some time as it will involve use of dental records, and potentially DNA, for formal identification," Allegheny County said on X, the social media network formerly known as Twitter. Three other structures in the neighbourhood were destroyed and at least a dozen others damaged.

Authorities have also said the home’s owners had been having problems with their hot water tank. The Allegheny County fire marshal’s office said all potential outside factors were eliminated, including wells, pipelines and other utilities, pinpointing the source as a home on Rustic Ridge Drive in Plum Borough. “This is certainly a sad, sad day and a sad time, for not just the folks in Plum but all the folks in the community and in this region,” Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald said, AP reported. Police respond to the scene of the explosion in Arlington on Monday night. David Sundberg, assistant director in charge of the FBI's Washington Field Office, told reporters that Yoo had communicated with the FBI via phone calls, online tips and letters over a number of years.

A gas company worker was killed and 15 people were hurt in a large explosion that rocked a Murrieta neighborhood Monday. A crew from SoCalGas was trying to shut off the gas when the explosion happened, leveling the home and killing 31-year-old SoCalGas employee Wade Kilpatrick. Some neighbors were aware of the fireworks in the neighborhood long before Tuesday’s explosion. Oscar said he knew that the people who lived at the now-smoldering home had “a few fireworks,” but he hadn’t been aware of the extent of their stockpile. The two people who died in the blast had not been identified as of Tuesday evening. Their bodies had not been removed from the scene, officials said, citing the ongoing dangerous conditions.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said federal fire agents are assisting the investigation. In an effort to compel Yoo to surrender, Penn said the officers deployed "nonflammable, less-lethal chemical munitions" where Yoo was believed to be hiding. Arlington County police have confirmed that James Yoo was the man at the center of the standoff at the Virginia home that exploded Monday night.

The Los Angeles Police Department is promising a full investigation amid growing questions about the agency’s handling of a fireworks seizure in South Los Angeles that ended with a huge explosion that injured 17 people. Two people have been released from the hospital, while one was listed in critical condition, Imbarlina said, adding that the cause of the explosion remains under investigation. That house and two others were so badly damaged they must be demolished, and 10 others were not safe for residents in the weeks after the Aug. 12 blast about 20 miles (32 kilometers) east of Pittsburgh. In Plum, a borough in Allegheny County in western Pennsylvania just east of Pittsburgh. George Emanuele, who lives three houses down from the home that exploded, said he and a neighbor went to the home after the explosion and dragged a man laying in the backyard away from the scene, he told the Tribune-Review. Chris White, a tech executive living in California, told NPR that he rented the house that exploded from Yoo and his wife from 2015 to 2016.

MURRIETA, Calif. (KABC) -- New video shows the deadly explosion of a home in Murrieta as it happened. Fire officials do not know the cause of the explosion, said Nate Hiner, a spokesperson for the Arlington fire department. The explosion occurred in Bluemont, a neighborhood in north Arlington where many of the homes are duplexes. After attempts to communicate with Yoo were unsuccessful, police obtained a search warrant.

Police at the scene told KTLA that Esmailian was home at the time of the shooting but it was unclear if the suspects ever entered the residence. Three suspects believed to be involved in the shooting all fled before police arrived. "I promised we would find what, how and why this happened and today we're a couple steps closer," said Bob Cannon, Clinton Township Supervisor. OTTUMWA, Iowa — A weekend house fire in southeast Iowa is under investigation. She has covered education, the pandemic, the vaccine rollout and breaking news throughout California.

"The information contained therein and the nature of those communications did not lead to opening any FBI investigations." Assistant Fire Chief Jason Jenkins noted that the fire department turned off the gas line to the house before the explosion occurred. Officials said they are still investigating the cause of the massive explosion that leveled the home and rocked Arlington's Bluemont neighborhood. Johnson said investigators have not determined the cause of the explosion, but “we can assume it was propane-related.” He said the 500-gallon tank, located outside the house, had leaked the fuel into the house. Additionally, an online fundraiser has been set up for the Oravitz family, which owned the property where the explosion took place. Doorbell camera footage - which has not been independently verified by the BBC - shows a massive explosion sending smoke and debris into the sky above the neighbourhood.

The city tweeted that a large cache of fireworks ignited at the house, setting the residence on fire. The Ontario Fire Department issued an evacuation order for neighboring properties on West Francis and West Maple streets, between Fern and San Antonio avenues. Residents across a vast area reported hearing the blast and feeling the ground shake shortly before 1 p.m. Craig Kailimai, special agent in charge of the Washington field division for the ATF, said investigators were conducting a “grid search” of the home to determine the cause and origin of the explosion.

Three officers reported minor injuries, but none was transported to the hospital. A massive explosion engulfed a home and rocked a neighborhood in Arlington, Virginia, as police were investigating a man who fired a flare gun dozens of times from inside Monday night, police said. Pennsylvania fire officials are still investigating the cause of a house explosion which left five people, including a child, dead and several other homes damaged, officials said Monday. Shortly after they arrived, the house exploded and burst into flames, with multiple mayday calls coming from the firefighters trapped inside. Crews rushed in to try to rescue them from the debris that covered them, but one firefighter was killed and 10 others were injured, Loudoun County Fire and Rescue officials said Saturday.

Berkeley recently rezoned the neighborhood south of the UC Berkeley campus to allow buildings as high as 12 stories to help address a housing shortage for students and faculty. The move nearly doubled the development potential of the neighborhood, allowing for another 2,652 homes. Republicans are also turning to the issue at a time when election season is fully underway and leadership needs a cause that unites them and divides Democrats. The House GOP's impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden has fallen flat and the Republican conference is smarting after a series of important bills left GOP lawmakers deeply divided.

And 2 p.m., to its calendar of events. A great place for craft cocktails, and tapas style. Will definitely come back again when in town.

Your Private Party Spot

Our waitress was kind enough to bring us the beets on the side but it really took away from what the dish should have been. Our main course was Grandmas Shrimp Etouffee, which looked more appealing on the menu than it did on the plate. The dish lacked flavor and didn't quite live up to our expectations.

However, we appreciated the live entertainment, which added to the overall experience. Despite the food falling a little short, we plan to give Fiore another chance as it is still a great date night spot. Cost per person for Afternoon High Tea at Fiore is $55. Reservations can be made online by visiting FioreLounge.com, clicking the reservations button, choosing your event, the desired date and the number in your party. I recently had one of the best evening experiences of my lifetime at Fiore. As someone who has always been on the lookout for the perfect "Old Fashioned" cocktail, I can confidently say that I found it here. The drink was expertly crafted and truly exceptional. What really made the experience special, however, was the hospitality of Destiny and her team. They went above and beyond to make me feel like part of the family and ensured that my visit was memorable.I will definitely make it a point to stop by Fiore every time I'm in Charlotte.

If you're looking for an exceptional evening out, I highly recommend checking out this spot. If you agree with my review, please give it a thumbs up. The team at Fiore have found an invitation to high tea in the elegant, intimate setting the lounge offers has been embraced by a large cross-section of the community. As Sharon observes, “We have had all groups of people in, men and women, young and old and everything in between.

Tried Fiore last night for the soft open. We tried a mix of the sharables, best was the mushrooms in gorganzola & the pork belly. Least favorite was the octopus (cooked perfect but missing some flavor). The place is privacy, but it's definitely something the area lacks. Service was 10/10, but it wouldn't be a kid friendly place to have our little ones tag along. We'll definitely be back again. Since 2017, we`ve become known as the most notable Lounge in the heart of Ballantyne.

From our unique cocktails to our ever-changing list of local spirits, we have everything you need to have a great night out.

We’ve hosted everything from celebrations to simply an afternoon with the family. My wife and I recently dined at Fiore in Ballantyne. The service and atmosphere were both exceptional, but we found the food to be somewhat underwhelming, especially given the prices. The standout dishes were the Wild Mushrooms and Brussel Sprouts appetizers. Unfortunately, my wife's Beef Salad was missing an important ingredient - the beets! It seemed like someone in the kitchen had made a mistake.
